INVISIBLE TREADMILL of Unhappiness

12.01.11 Posted in Gratitude by

2011 is almost over.

Was it the year you thought it would be?

What did you do in 2011 that’s worth writing a book about?

Did you quit your job, improve your relationship, get rid of that weight, increase your income, improve your spirituality? It’s okay if you didn’t make the progress you wanted to.

Well here’s something to think about…

The life you deserve and dream of is NEVER as far as you think it is.

If you want to be the happiest, most successful, most prosperous person you’ve ever been in 2012, you should read this letter very carefully. Because what I’m about to share will change your life permanently!

Everything you’ve ever wanted… is ALWAYS one moment away.

But there’s something that keeps most people from experiencing total happiness. I’m going to explain what I mean. First let me give you a little background so you can understand this concept.

Imagine buying your younger cousin Tommy a brand new bike, X-box, Nintendo Wii, Sony Playstation, and over $1,000 on new designer clothes.

You pay a visit and go to his room. He’s mumbling “God… I HATE living here! I can’t stand these stupid toys!” His toys are scattered across the room, he’s got crayon all over the wall, paper all over the floor, his dirty clothes haven’t been washed, he’s completely scuffed up his shoes. You say “what’s wrong?” He says…

“I hate my life! These clothes are old and I look like a loser. These toys don’t even work anymore. And I’m tired of doing chores. I don’t even get anything out of it! It sucks! I hate it!”

You say “Tommy… is it okay if I take one of these toys to my other nephew? He would probably like to have a good toy like this one.”

Tommy says “HA! Are you kidding!? That’s my best toy. Give him one of these.”

He hands you a broken, run-down toy that he hasn’t played with in years.

Maybe you’re extremely nice and forgiving. But if you’re like most people… in the back of your head you’d be thinking “this little boy is ungrateful. He needs to show some sense of appreciation before I give him these gifts.”

Why would Tommy care to put his toys up and treat them with respect — he doesn’t want them anymore. He wants new ones.

Why would Tommy be thankful and satisfied with his warm cuddly bed — he doesn’t have the toys he wants.

So when you walk in his room – regardless of what he says – it’s painfully obvious that he’s unhappy. And what makes it worse is that he has the nerve to complain to you about it. Not one time will he EVER say “I’m happy with what I have”.

Tommy is 7.

But this is how adults go through life.

You want new and better, but you’re not satisfied with what you have — and you’re not willing to give your best in exchange. So here’s the life changing discovery I’ve made.

When you fail to acknowledge, appreciate and express gratitude for everything you DO have — you create distance between yourself and the future that contains what you COULD have.

And you spend your life trying to achieve things, trying to get things, trying to be successful – but you’re getting nowhere fast.

It’s as if you’re living your entire life on an INVISIBLE TREADMILL.

You’re trying harder than ever. You’re working harder than ever. You’re loving harder than ever. You’re doing everything harder and faster. But when you do not have this secret ingredient, all you can do is keep living the same life you’ve been living and keep getting the same results you’ve been getting.

Like Tommy, all you can see is what you don’t have. And it shows.

When all you can see is what you don’t have and would rather have… you live your life, respond to people, respond to situations, respond to problems with DISSATISFACTION, DISAPPOINTMENT, RESENTMENT and FRUSTRATION. And you are never able to give to others when you live in a reality of unhappiness.

Tommy wasn’t willing to give up his best. If he did, he would have got a whole new world. His reality could have changed in an instant. Tommy wanted more gifts, but it was obvious that Tommy wasn’t happy with what he had.

He didn’t have to say it. You knew he was unappreciative before he uttered one word.

It happens the same way in your life.

You might be grateful. But you might not be willing to give your best to others. You might be willing to give your best, but you might not be grateful.

What’s important is that you understand, people can hear it, they experience it. The universe hears it, the universe feels it.

So you continue running marathons of complaints, marathons of hard work, marathons of desires… but they seem further and further away. A week goes by – no progress. A month goes by… you know you’re close, but something happens you give up. 6 months go by, you’re pissed off because it seems like it will never happen. By the time it’s December… you’ve had enough time to refuel — you want different and NEW.

But you’re on the SAME TREADMILL going the SAME direction headed towards the SAME RESULTS.

Because you missed one simple little ingredient. And by the way… don’t worry. There’s a TOMMY in all of us. Doesn’t matter whether you’re male or female, 21 or 91. We have to work on our inner Tommy and get off the invisible treadmill of unhappiness. It leads no where. It never does and never will.

And the secret of getting off this treadmill, is GRATITUDE.

GRATITUDE means the quality or feeling of being grateful or thankful.

It means being thankful for your life AS IS.

Problems, circumstances, trials, triumphs and tribulations.

Sure, there are men, women and children who are worse off than you. But that’s not the point of gratitude.

Gratitude is NOT in comparison to what someone else doesn’t have. It’s about you being grateful for what you have or don’t have.

Even if you had the worse situation on earth – there’s always something to be thankful for. You’re still alive. You still have a chance to experience nature. You still have a chance to walk and talk. You still have a chance to live a life today, better than yesterday. Look at your life very closely and see how much you have to be thankful for.

You don’t need to look at anyone else’s life. Look within your own. Look at how much progress you’ve made over the weeks, months and years. That’s always enough. But here’s the good part.

When you fully understand the power of gratitude – you can unlock an avalanche of abundance in your life.

You attract aunts, auncles, friends, strangers, business owners, men, women, corporations, to be in your corner and GIVE YOU more than you could imagine. Because they see something in you. Because they can’t help but be touched by your warm, attractive personality.

Haven’t you ever wanted to give a complete stranger something… because they warmed your heart and seemed like a really good person?

I want to show you how to be that type of person all the time. Because when you ARE that person. You get much more than you ask for. You get to live in abundance instead of worrying about lack. You make life your personal genie. And there’s no better time than to increase your power of gratitude than right now.

Because right now… we’re heading into a BRAND NEW YEAR!
